FAQ's
What is Electrolysis?
Electrolysis is the science of permanent hair removal by the use of a medical device to destroy the growth center of the hair with either chemical or heat energy. This process is considered a non-invasive procedure. A very fine probe which is pre-packaged, pre-sterilized and disposable is inserted into the follicle (a natural opening in the skin) along side the hair. The size of the probe is chosen in direct relation to the size of the hair to be treated. When the probe reaches the base of the follicle a small amount of electricity is applied to the dermal papilla which is the hairs source of nourishment. The electricity causes heat and the heat cauterizes the blood supply that nourishes the hair and it damages the productive organ or matrix of the hair to destroy the cells responsible for hair growth. The hair is then harmlessly removed from the skin with forceps.
What will it feel like?
Thanks to advancements in modern electrolysis equipment, effective treatment is more comfortable than before and is not generally considered a painful procedure. Any discomfort felt is dependent on the client's tolerance and the area being treated. During treatment a sensation described as "a pinch" , "slight heat" or a tingling sensation has been noted. Your desire to get rid of unwanted hair will far outweigh anything you will feel during your treatment. More often than not, I hear "is that it?"
Are there side effects?
There are no permanent side effects. Immediately following treatment there might be slight redness or puffiness which usually disappears within a short amount of time. Since we are all individuals, healing times will vary.
Are all hairs eliminated in one treatment or is regrowth to be expected?
Human hair is particularly tenacious. Since hairs all grow in different cycles the treatments must address both regrowth (which is usually much finer and lighter) and new hairs emerging from the follicle. Often, permanency requires a series of treatments. This is especially true with deep or coarse hairs.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments necessary varies with each person. Factors such as hair growth cycle, the quantity and structure of the hair presented, previous use of temporary hair removal methods, hormone function, heredity, certain medications and stress influence the treatment program for each individual. It is important to adhere to the treatment schedule recommended to achieve optimum results in the shortest amount of time. Improvement should be noticed within several months after starting treatments.
